Deletion From a Set With Secondary Index Is Slow

Problem Description

Deletion of records from a set that has a secondary index is slow.

Explanation

Slow garbage collection for secondary indexes may cause deletion of records covered by the sindex to have poor performance. Speeding up garbage collection may improve this performance.

Solution

The configuration parameter sindex-gc-period controls how often the garbage collection thread runs, so decreasing this parameter will increase the rate of garbage collection at the cost of additional CPU load. Note that at some point based on the rate of secondary index deletions, the thread will be running continuously and further decreases in sindex-gc-period will not increase performance.
